Studio Shoot Plan

Guardians of the Galaxy Studio Shoot:

My shoot is going to take place within an hour time slot, in this hour I will be experimenting with several lighting style to give me a wide number of shots to work with. I will be splitting my hour into halves, using one half to shoot dramatic shots with low-key lighting and the other soft lighting.

My studio shoot is going to be based off of the movie Guardians of the Galaxy. During my studio shoot I will keep the idea in mind that the photographs I am taking will be for commercial use/an editorial piece.

The lighting I will be using will consist of Soft lighting for my profile (interview) shots to do this I will use key and fill light on my model to create soft shots.Although for my action and profile shots I am wanting to use hard light to give my photos a more dramatic in depth final image, to get these final photographs I will be using a snoot.

Regarding props I have quite a lengthy list due to my models being created from an already existing character. My props mainly include outfits. In regards to camera equipment I will be using, my camera along with spare batteries and sd cards, sync cable, light meter.

Editorial piece 1

Guardians of the Galaxy Interview:

So Chrissie-

Please call me Chris

Okay- Chris how was stepping into a world like this, learning to live in space?

I think you’re talking about the props and toys and sets and costumes. All that stuff makes my job easy, it’s not easy, but it makes it much easier because it’s doing a lot of the work the props, the costume, mask and guns, everything that distracts the viewers attention from me I invite, just in case I fuck it up please just look at the cool guns.

I imagine it’s difficult balancing being a badass and being super funny…

Not at all, just being me [Laughs] Just kidding. I had enough people helping I just hope that I even remotly portrayed badass.

[Laughs] Were there any characters you were inspired by or looked back on and thought, I sort of want to be in that realm?

Oh man, don't make me decide... Well I did love Rocket's character absolutly hilarious, Bradley Cooper did a great job. I think Drax is awesome. Not only the character but Dave Bautista the actor. I just really adore him so much and think he’s very, very good. So unique. I just really love him.

So did you ever imagine that your role as inter-galactic bad-ass would require so much dancing?

Well that's all Petra Quill, kid of the 80's. I really thought I nailed it though [Laughs]

Both you and James (Gunn)  are very funny, how important is comedy to telling the story of the Guardians of the Galaxy?

Oh, super important. I think comedy is very, very important, especially in this film. I mean, if we pull this off right, it’s going to be hard for other movies to come out that are like this. They’re going to seem pretty unfunny compared to our movie, I think. James is really, really funny. It’s really rare that someone makes me consistently laugh out loud, and he really does. We have similar senses of humor, and a really great relationship and banter on set that probably could be seen as inappropriate, but it’s really keeping us both sane. This is ultimately his movie and his voice, and you’ll definitely see that humor through the course of this movie. And I think it is important and key to making this movie work, because it’s not just a straight action-adventure type of movie. I think all the best big adventure movies have comedy, like all the ‘Indiana Jones’ movies and like a ‘Romancing the Stone’. Any type of movie where you have an adventure, potential budding sexual chemistry and humor all together, it really works.

Well Thank you Chris

Thanks dudes!

Evaluation

Evaluation

For this project the theme was Hollywood reported, in which I believed to be very flexible as you could choose to be influenced my any film of your choice, regarding film style, a character, scenes etc.

I chose two movies to take shoots on Guardians of the Galaxy and The Dark Knight Rises.
Guardians of the Galaxy was chosen as I thought that taking photographs based off of a futuristic theme, that I would be able to experiment using different lighting techniques to create an galactic themed finish. The Dark Knight Rises was chosen purely on the character Selina Kyle/Catwomen. I chose to take these photographs on location as I thought that would create another link with the film using street views, brick walls and an urban theme overall.

Through researching historical and contemporary photographers I found that the historical photographers/cinematographers images were iconic, classic and bold. In which I think worked extremely well for it's time. Although the contemporary photographers/cinematographers photographs are what I felt most inspired to I found their work powerful, interesting, and unconventional. It was this research that lead me into choosing my films, giving that they were both contemporary, modern, films.

During this project I have completed multiple shoots, the ones I have most enjoyed and learnt the most from was the studio shoots. I learnt about different lighting techniques such as, hard and soft light, beauty dishes, reflectors, snoots, soft boxes, ect.

I enjoyed working in more depth with editorial photography, learning what catching the viewers eye and how to take a shoot with the idea in mind that these photographs will be used commercially, for my editorial piece.

Overall I found my final editorial and final photographs quite successful. For my editorial piece I used external research for interviews and articles to help write up my interview. I found that the layou tof my editorial piece reflected the film that I have chosen using, a marvel/comic-book theme.
